What Is a Lip Lift?
A lip lift is a surgical procedure that removes a small strip of skin from just beneath the nose, shortening the space between the nostrils and the upper lip (the philtrum). This raises the upper lip slightly, showing more of the lip and teeth at rest and during a smile.
The most common technique is known as the bullhorn lip lift, named after the shape of the incision used, which follows the base of the nose. The incision is placed to heal along the natural junction between the nose and lip, where any resulting scar is generally well hidden.
A lip lift is different from lip fillers. Fillers add volume to the lips; a lip lift changes the proportion of the face by shortening the upper lip area, without necessarily adding volume. Some patients choose to combine both for a fuller, more balanced result.

There are different lip lift techniques depending on what the patient wants to address. The two most common are:
Bullhorn (Subnasal) Lip Lift
The most common lip lift technique. A small strip of skin is removed just beneath the nose, following a bullhorn-shaped incision, to shorten the space between the nose and the upper lip and reveal more of the lip.
Corner Lip Lift
Targets the corners of the mouth rather than the centre of the upper lip, lifting a downturned or asymmetrical mouth corner. This can be performed alongside a bullhorn lip lift or as a standalone procedure, depending on the concern.

A lip lift changes proportion, not volume. Some patients choose to combine a lip lift with lip filler afterwards for a fuller as well as more balanced result — the lift improves how much lip shows, and filler can add volume on top of that.
